Rate Comparison

In side-by-side rate comparisons done by the IMPA staff, Indiana's Public Power systems register average rates for a residential user of 1000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month at 9.72 percent less than the average for Indiana investor-owned utilities.

The IMPA comparison reported the average rate for Indiana's investor-owned utilities at $101.60 per month as of January 2010. The IMPA member municipal average for the same time period was $91.72, a $9.88 per month difference.

Vectren is the state's most expensive power provider, reporting an average of $141.60 per month for 1000 kWh. In contrast, IMPA members Lawrenceburg and Spiceland have among the lowest at $78.01 and $75.68 per month respectively.
