Public Power Rates
In Indiana:
In side-by-side rate comparisons done by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) and IMPA staff, Indiana's Public Power systems register average rates for a residential user of 1000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month at 12% less than the average for Indiana investor-owned utilities.
The IMPA comparison reported the average rate for Indiana's investor-owned utilities at $89.40 per month as of July 1, 2007. The IMPA member municipal average for the same time period was $78.58, a $11 per month difference.
Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) is the state's most expensive power provider, reporting an average of $105.61 per month for 1000 kWh. In contrast, IMPA members Brookston and Bainbridge have among the lowest at $56.00 and $61.18 per month respectively.
